It is known across many cultural tradition as a time of purification, renewal, and preparation for the coming season. In Europe, farmers have begun to turn over their beds in anticipation of the first planting. In Japan, young and old alike celebrate by throwing beans and shouting to banish evil and invite in good deeds.
